Life in New France
Imagine a world with no T.V., computers, video games or phones. Canada’s story began about 450 years ago when explorers from France began coming to North America. Soon more people from France came and began to farm and build small towns. They gave the name New France to this part of Quebec. There were also many children who lived in New France. Most of them lived on farms. These children lived without all the daily things you have. At the time Canada was called 'New France'. In this exercise you will read all about life in New France and then write a letter to your friends in France to prepare them for what life will be like when they get here. You will learn where they lived, what they ate, what they did for fun, and many other things about them. With this information you will be able to write a letter describing to someone what it was like.
It is 1556 and you have been in New France for a year and a half. Your mom comes outside to tell you that she has just recieved a letter from France. It has the most exciting news - Your friend is going to be moving to New France in 6 months! Excitidly you start to list all the fun things you and your friend will do. Your mom reminds you how scared you were when you first came to New France and all the things you didn't know. You decide to write a letter to your friend to tell them what to expect.
